Passing shots

2011 Australian Open U.S. wild card playoff winner Madison Keys has done it again. Keys defeated Mallory Burdette (and can you think of two players you'd rather see in the final?) to get her second straight wild card into the Melbourne main draw. Also winning a wild card was Bojana Bobusic, who won the Australian playoffs.

Dave Taylor has resigned his post as Australian Fed Cup captain so that he can focus solely on his other position--coaching Sam Stosur.

L'Equipe has named Serena Williams 2012's Sportswoman of the Year.

Sugarpova hits the West Coast.

A $125,000-purse WTA clay court tournament will be held in Cali, Columbia in February.

That win by Serena is pure irony. A French publication names her Sportswoman of the Year and her very own publication (Sports Illustrated) hardly ever nominates her. I hope that this leads to the French crowd having some sympathy for her next year when she plays the FO
